Rub an ovenproof dish with garlic and grease evenly with the butter.

Remove the skin from the potatoes and slice them into thin slices. Place the potato slices in the mold in a flaky pattern so that the bottom is covered. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spread ham, cut into strips, evenly on top. Put another layer of potato slices. Season again and spread ham strips evenly over the top. Cover with another layer of potato slices. Mix milk and whipped cream and pour evenly over the top. Grate cheese and sprinkle on top layer of potatoes.

Cook in the oven at 200 °C for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until the surface is golden brown.

Tip: It is best to use your favorite ham – then your dish will taste twice as good!
