A great pasta dish for any occasion:

Peel onions and cut into narrow rings. Soften in the melted butter over a low fire with the lid closed. Do not allow the onions to brown. Replace evaporated liquid from time to time with a little warm chicken soup. Cooking time is about 25 min. Mash onions and add cream and whipped cream. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Cook the pasta until al dente and mix with the warmed sauce. Add the Parmesan cheese separately to taste.
