Bring the red lentils to the boil with 1 l of water. Wash the tomatoes, rub dry and cut into cubes – remove the stalks. Add the diced tomatoes, turmeric and cumin to the lentils and cook over low heat for about 25 minutes until the lentils are soft.

Now salt first and pull the pot from the stove.

Cut the onions into fine rings, chop the garlic. Cut the chili pepper into fine rings, removing the seeds. Heat the ghee in a saucepan and fry the onions and garlic until golden. Arrange the red lentils on plates and sprinkle with the onion rings, garlic, chili rings and chopped cilantro.

Preparation Tip:

If you don't particularly like cilantro, sprinkle the red lentils with onion rings with chopped parsley instead.
