For the Maltese cake, put all the ingredients for the dough in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Divide the dough between 2 20 cm cake pans and bake at 180 °C for approx. 30 minutes. Let the cake layers cool down.

Mix the ingredients for the cream. Spread some cream on the bottom cake layer, place the 2nd cake layer on top. Spread the cream all around and decorate with Maltesers.

Preparation Tip:

Due to the large amount of sugar and butter, this is NOT a cake for every day. However, the Maltese cake is excellent as a comfort food.
