For the beef stew, wash the cabbage and cut into strips. Peel the onions, potatoes and carrots. Dice onions and potatoes, cut carrots into coarse pieces. Heat butter, saute diced onions, add beef and brown.

Layer cabbage, diced potatoes and carrot pieces. Season each layer with salt and pepper. Pour in soup and cover cooking pot with lid.

Steam the beef stew on low heat for about 1 hour.

This beef stew is a variation of the Irish Stew - this one is made with lamb!
