Cut marzipan into cubes, mix with fat, sugar (1) and salt until creamy. Fold in eggs one by one. Mix flour and baking powder, stir briefly into the mixture. Pour the dough into a greased springform pan and smooth it down. Bake in a heated oven (electric stove: 175 °C / gas stove: level 2) for 30-35 min.

Soak the gelatine. Rinse the apples. Remove two narrow slices from the center of each apple (stems and core on the slices). Core apple halves, cut two (each pie) into wedges, dice rest. Sprinkle the cubes with juice of one lemon (1). Boil water and juice of one lemon (2). Steam apple slices and ~slices in portions for about 3 minutes at low temperature until soft, drain well.

Mix curd cheese, sugar (2), vanillin sugar, lemon peel and juice of one lemon (3). Squeeze the gelatine, let it melt and stir into the curd mixture. Whip the cream until stiff. Place a cake ring around the cooled cake base. As soon as the curd mixture begins to firm, fold in whipped cream and apple cubes. Spread the cream on the marzipan base. Leave the cake to cool for 2 hours. Before serving, top with steamed apple slices and wedges.
